  2. Hey all, I've received a few PMs asking for proof that I'm the owner of Dimmdrive from Reddit. Here is proof! I am http://reddit.com/u/MultiboxingDotCom - Yup, that's me! Updated Below! Edit: I've created a new Reddit account since the one above seemed too related to a specific website. My new Reddit account: http://reddit.com/u/StartupTim

  3. UPDATE: Thanks all, I'm closing the ability to transfer pre-Steam release to Steam release. It was intended to allow this for 1 month, not 8 If you are a paying Dimmdrive customer who purchased via the Dimmdrive website and want to swap over to a Steam license, please do the following: Send me a PM saying you want to swap over to the Steam license from your Dimmdrive licensed forum username You must include the Paypal Transaction ID and the email address you purchased with. It cannot be the "unique transaction ID". The Paypal Transaction ID and email. Those are the only things Paypal lets me look it up with F5 your PM box till you see my response Note: This won't work for anybody who got a key via a give-away and is only for valid, paying customers. Then I'll respond to your PM with a Steam key. YAY!!

  4. We've been getting hit with SPAM bots more and more lately. It seems that, as Dimmdrive is growing fast in popularity, SPAM bots hitting the forums have increased as well. While dozens of spammers are auto-banned per day, from time to time, some get through the cracks. REPORT THEM! I pay attention to each and every SPAM report and I deeply thank you guys for that. Screwy and IceBadger are rockstars at reporting them. Many thanks! I'm working hard on a bunch of new things for Dimmdrive, and once those are launched, I plan on offering some of our forum heroes the power to moderate, which should help out a ton, too. Whew!

  8. I've figured out an equation that can easily be used to compare sticks of RAM: (L÷0.5S)×103=E Speed (1600, 1866, etc.) = S Latency (CAS# or CL#) = L Efficiency = E (nano seconds) (Lower is better) This equation of course is just about efficiency, it has nothing to do with capacity.

  20. I wanted to submit 2 requests. One, it would be really nice if the list of Steam games in DIMM Drive was cached, so that each time I launch it doesn't need to check what games were installed before. It just assumes it's the same as last time and, if it can't find a game I told it to put on the DIMM drive, it can give me an error and let me either rescan the library or cancel. Of course, there would need to be a manual button to start a scan as well (for when you install new games). But this would really expedite the ability to launch games - especially since most people do not download or delete games on Steam as often as they restart their computers. Two, I've noticed that if I drag a folder to the other programs section, and then shut down my computer without exiting DIMM Drive, the next time I start my computer DIMM Drive will not show the folder that I had dragged into the other programs. However, if I drag the folder to the other programs, quit DIMM Drive, then relaunch it, I have no problems. It would be convenient if DIMM Drive saved the list of other programs without exiting, so if I shut down my computer without exiting DIMM Drive will have saved my settings.

  21. I'm running Windows 8.1, I have 8GB of ram. My OS/Boot drive is C:, and Steam and Dimmdrive are also installed to C: in their default directories. All of my Steam games however are installed on E:\Steam\SteamApps\ For some reason Dimmdrive doesn't detect those games at all, and I even tried creating a symlink from C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam to E:\Steam\SteamApps (using cmd and the /J command)

  28. First, Pay for this program and support the author, he's doing great work !! No, seriously, pay for the program!! Second, This isn't some "Great Find" nor am I saying this is the best thing since sliced bread. It's a workaround until DimmDrive supports it natively. I also was curious on learning about symlinks and wanted to try my hand at it. It's not a slick GUI implementation but if you wish to learn, like I did, keep reading. I'm using Batch files to accomplish this, it has nothing to do with DIMMDRIVE except it's doing the exact same thing DD is doing, just without the slick interface, the easy to use sliders, the great support (you get the picture). Why do this? DIMMDRIVE we all know creates a psuedo hard drive from unused system memory, copies the game files to that newly created drive and then creates the symlink to it. This allows games to run from RAM for an increase in performance. Cool, we all get it. However, many games are very large and when presented with economy of scale it becomes extremely cost prohibitive to increase system memory to the necessary space. DD solution is to uniquely identify certain files only. That get's pretty tedious once you've done a game or two. SSDs, however, are flash (not as fast as System Memory) but still much faster than spindle drives. The problem is, finding a 4TB SSD to install all your Steam games to is again cost inefficient to say the least. Trying to manage install/unintalls across different drives is a pain as well. Now, 120GB SSDs are pretty cheap ($60 if you keep your eyes open for deals). So, the thought is, install all your games to your 4TB 7200RPM drive. When you want to play a game, copy the files from the 4TB drove to a blank 120GB Flash Drive, create the symlinks and have the game run off of that. You see a tremendous increase in performance and you don't have to worry about moving installations around. Hence my project. It provides an increase performance in games using hardware that is extremely cost friendly. In other words, it leverages the cheapest, fastest solution for everyday use. How it works: I used DimmDrives process as the template: 1. Copy the files from the STEAM installation folder(4TB drive) to your SSD drive(120GB) 2. Rename the original game folder on the 4TB drive 3. Create the symlinks to point to the SSD Drive 4. Launch the Game via STEAM. Steam is pointing to the 4TB drive, which then redirects the requests to the SSD drive...bingo. 5. Play the game, rage quit... 6. Compare the files on the 120GB drive to the original source files on the 4TB directory. Certain files change while playing (Saved games and such) that need to be captured. Copy changed files from the SSD back to the 4TB drive. 7. Delete the symlinks 8. Rename the 4TB directory back to the original name 9. Delete contents from SSD Drive. All this is done in a BATCH file. Code example for DOTA 2 below: rmdir "C:\DIMMDRIVE_SSD" /S /Q mkdir "C:\DIMMDRIVE_SSD" xcopy "D:\Program Files (X86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dota 2 beta" "C:\DIMMDRIVE_SSD" /E rename "D:\Program Files (X86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dota 2 beta" "dota 2 beta prelink" mklink /D "D:\Program Files (X86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dota 2 beta" C:\DIMMDRIVE_SSD pause "D:\Program Files (X86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dota 2 beta\dota.exe" xcopy "C:\DIMMDRIVE_SSD" "D:\Program Files (X86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dota 2 beta prelink" /E /d /q rmdir /q "D:\Program Files (X86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dota 2 beta" rename "D:\Program Files (X86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dota 2 beta prelink" "dota 2 beta" rmdir "C:\DIMMDRIVE_SSD" /S /Q Code explained: --Clear the SSD Drive, Quiet mode (No prompts to verify delete function) rmdir "C:\DIMMDRIVE_SSD" /S /Q --Create temporary directory mkdir "C:\DIMMDRIVE_SSD" --Copy source files to temporary SSD Drive xcopy "D:\Program Files (X86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dota 2 beta" "C:\DIMMDRIVE_SSD" /E --Rename original source directory rename "D:\Program Files (X86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dota 2 beta" "dota 2 beta prelink" --Create the symlink to point to the SSD drive mklink /D "D:\Program Files (X86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dota 2 beta" C:\DIMMDRIVE_SSD --Take a drink of soda (actually gives the system time to generate all the necessary symlinks) pause --Launch the game "D:\Program Files (X86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dota 2 beta\dota.exe" --Upon quiting the game (i.e. Rage quit) copy any files that changed back to the orginal source directory xcopy "C:\DIMMDRIVE_SSD" "D:\Program Files (X86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dota 2 beta prelink" /E /d /q --Remove the Symlink rmdir /q "D:\Program Files (X86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dota 2 beta" --Rename the original source directory back to it's original name rename "D:\Program Files (X86)\Steam\steamapps\common\dota 2 beta prelink" "dota 2 beta" --Wipe out temporary directory on SSD drive rmdir "C:\DIMMDRIVE_SSD" /S /Q Eventually I'm sure DD will have this feature available, it's just a matter of time. Until that time, here is "A" method (Not the only method) to make use of that cheap SSD you picked up during Black Friday or Cyber Monday sale. Oh, I verified using PROCMON that reads/writes were hitting the SSD and not the 4TB Spindle. It wouldn't be much work to build a simple parser to autogenerate batch files for all installed games but not sure if there truly is a demand. Better would have this option in DD. Patience is a virtue....but BATCH files are still fun. Enjoy..

  29. I have a question, can I use Dimmdrive with a game that is fully symlinked through Dropbox, like the WHOLE game folder is being synced by dropbox, as in the WHOLE game folder is in the Dropbox folder being synced, not just the savedata, but the WHOLE game.. I would like to know if I am okay to use Dimmdrive with such a game... Will that work or will the symlinks conflict? Thanks, Jimmy

  31. Video Version Using the tool Process Moniter You can get a full profile of what files are accessed and for how long over a game session 1) Open ProcMon.exe from the downloaded zip file 2) Let it run, nothing is needed to be done to the program to record the session 3) Start up the game, and play about 30 minutes to a hour, this will allow a proper profile to be made, Make sure to do everything you can, and focus on common areas that you use 4) After a long gameplay sessions, the fun begins, Go back into process monitor and filter the results 5) Find out the process name that your game uses for the main Programe (Planetside 2 uses Planetside2.exe) 6) Setup the filter as shown below, Click Add once completed, and click OK 7) Goto Tools -> File summary 8) Resize the window and click TWO times on "File Time" (This will sort all the files by the total amount of time spent accessing the files All Done, you now have the information to prepare a smaller and better DimmDrive!

  32. Hi there, Now that Dimmdrive has become purchasable on Steam (Heck yeah!) I seem to remember a matter that existing users would eventually be allowed to get a Steam key so the process could be fully integrated. Is this already live or is it still being taken care of? If I'm in the wrong part of the forum I apologize in advance.

  35. Hi, I've just bought Dimm Drive (a trial would be really useful!) I'm unable to get it working correctly with WOW (which is using the new file format). I have 32 GB of RAM and i am trying to create a DIMM Drive of approx 26GB - I'd like to put as much of WOW on there as possible. When I do this and try to load the game, it loads up the box that tries to repair files? also, when it completes this, it loads the splash screen and the initial thing I notice is that the "Red" portal before logging in is static and low quality??? I'm not really quite sure what to do. A tutorial of how to configure the updated version of wow with DD would be a very great help. I've tried following the video made for WoW but it was the old version. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Xan

  40. That's okay Deadmeat, I'm a little slack on DDR4 knowledge also. I've been hearing that there are some problems, But I definitely think it is what I need for rendering. I might just make a second box with smaller and lower CAS ram for a more speed critical DimmDrive setup, and run the larger DDR4 for rendering.

  41. Hey, as the subject asks, What games are you into right now? I've been trying out various Free2Play games on Steam and the main one that I am liking is King's Bounty: Legion which is a fb type game but playable through Steam. I enjoy it because it's a take it or leave it game, where I can play for 5 minutes or 5 hours. Other games I play from time to time: Ticket to Ride *not f2p* RIFT Lord of the Rings Online Neverwinter Path of Exile Diablo 3 Marvel Heroes

  44. Hey all, We've created a support tool to assist with some issues people might be having with Steam Games and Dimmdrive starting correctly. This tool will output a bunch of information that you can then paste into a forum post in the CODE (see the <> in the forum toolbar) brackets. To use this tool, make sure to copy it to your Dimmdrive installation directory. It will not function correctly unless it is in that directory. From there, simply run the tool, click Run Test, and then copy the contents into your support forum thread. Download the Dimmdrive Support Tool here. Here is a screenshot for the tool:

  46. Hello everyone and Thank you Tim for your excellent software. I bought this software some time ago when I didnt have any RAM at all. Now I have 12G of 1333 DDR3. That's it for the background now lets go into the question. I'm actually using it to decrease loading time from Fallout 4 and the best that I"m able to go is to decrease the loading time by around 50 %. Instead of 2 min, it takes 1 min now. Well I'm asking you Tim because in like the first video you made back then when you are launching 5 WoW, you got also a 50% decrease in loading time. And now its 2016 and you made the same record for Star citizen. So clearly its like there is something that slow us down a "bottleneck". Maybe its the processor and that's the reason why you made CPUscores directly after Dimmdrive ? In fact what i'm saying here and correct me If I'm wrong: is that even if I would have the best RAM out there I'm thinking that I couldnt have better than a 50% decrease in loading time. Please dont hit me too hard, english isnt my first language. I'm really trying to get an answer to this.

  47. Just wanted to stop by and thank you for your great work with this project! I purchased dimmdrive yesterday after talking to a few colleagues about previous ram drives i had tested in the past, they then suggested to try dimmdrive Great integration with steam, nice and easy to use UI, very easy to add non-steam software. Overall i am very impressed with this software! Great work my friend! Also that's great news regarding the update Tim, cant wait to see you have in store for us! Thanks again for your continued hard work with this project!

  48. Hey All, I've been away the past month or so, moving from seemingly one end of the world to another. The absence has caused a little lag on some Dimmdrive updates, especially the GUI re-skinning, and reworking of the main website, not to mention working towards Steam listings, as well as funzies like doing more community give-aways to spread awareness. The "Dimmdrive on Steam Greenlight" Poll results look very promising! 95% of you guys think we should get on Steam. Awesome! February 20th is my target to hop back into the thick of things, including more community interaction, revamping the forums to try and curb the spam bots, doing some Q+A, and asking what YOU guys would like for additional features. I'm excited to put the foot to the gas on Dimmdrive again very soon! Cheers all! Tim UPDATE Feb 20th: I'm still deep in the middle of all of this moving shenanigans. Once I finish it'll be DD all the way!

  49. Realised that I am answering my own quetsion, but hopefully it will help someone one day. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common Find any games that are ending with symlink and delete it. This will fix the program that doesn't close properly.

  50. Dimmdrive has been updated to Version 10004! This update is a massive update to Dimmdrive which includes features that a lot of people have been excited for. Dimmdrive can now be used with games which have a size larger than your RAM / Dimmdrive size! This feature allows you to intelligently select the particular files you want to go fast and skip out non-essential files. For example, you can take a 25GB World of Warcraft installation and trim it down to 3GB size in Dimmdrive. See here for more information: http://dimmdrive.com/instructions/game-wrench-less-ram-or-more-ram/ Dimmdrive's core has been completely rebuilt. All Ramdisk information is now intelligently created and managed using our custom symlink engine. This means Steam, Origin, Game Launchers, everything, will passively work by default Dimmdrive's core now automatically synchronizes all managed symlinks with actual data on your hard drive. This means NO data is lost when you shut down your PC, reboot, etc. You can now re-select an EXE in Steam You can now bind an EXE to run in the "Other Programs" area when using a folder Fixed a crash bug due to a Microsoft issue causing WMI pointers to get out-of-sync General speed enhancements Please do the following when updating: Go into your Add / Remove inside windows, and uninstall Dimmdrive. SUPER IMPORTANT! Delete your Dimmdrive folder config/xml/gamexml (either in the Dimmdrive install directory, or look in your Localstore (Example: "C:\Users\admin\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)" ). NOTE: You can use the Support Tool to delete your old config files. See here! Reboot Download the latest Dimmdrive from here and install it Reboot Enjoy! NOTE: To delete your old Dimmdrive config, use the support tool. Forthcoming Updates: The next update will include the following: The ability to launch a Steam game inside Dimmdrive proxied directly through Steam (versus running the Dimmdrive'd .exe) Better detection of Steam Games Any bug fixes that need to go in
